Stampede Gets Even, 4-3

The San Bernardino Stampede scored three runs in the ninth inning to defeat Lancaster, 4-3, on Tuesday night at San Bernardino and moved into a tie for first place in the South Division of the California League.

Each team has five games left in the first half of the season.

Lancaster moved a game ahead of San Bernardino on Sunday with an 8-4 victory over Lake Elsinore, and the Stampede fell, 1-0, to High Desert.

The JetHawks scored four runs in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead. Seven players drove runs for Lancaster, which had Jeff Heaverlo (5-2) allow five hits in six innings. Heaverlo struck out four, walked one and gave up two runs.

A 7-3 victory over Lake Elsinore on Monday kept the JetHawks in the lead. Lancaster scored three run in the bottom of the sixth and two in the seventh to overtake the Storm.

San Bernardino kept pace Monday with a 3-2 victory over High Desert. Cody Morrison pitched three no-hit innings of relief for his third save, while Chris Mears (5-3) went six innings, giving up eight hits and three runs for the JetHawks.

Craig Kuzmic who hit his ninth home run, Bo Robinson, Harvey Hargrove and Terrmel Sledge all had two hits. Freddy May and Sledge drove in two runs each.
