Cvijanovich, 73, resigned after the 1998-99 season after guiding the Saints to the state Division V championship.

Financial details have to be finalized and Cvijanovich’s hiring must be approved by the the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, but he is expected to be hired by July.

“I’m going to do everything to make it happen,” said Ed Lyon, recently hired as president of Santa Clara.

Cvijanovich, who had 829 career victories, coached the Saints to three state and 15 Southern Section titles.

He was an assistant coach at Hueneme last season.

Martin Meyer, who guided Santa Clara to a 17-7 record last season in his first year as basketball coach, is expected to keep his position.
