Vanguard to Play Western Montana in NAIA Playoffs

Vanguard, which finished the regular season ranked 10th in the nation, will play Western Montana in the first round of the NAIA Division I women’s basketball championships at 7:45 p.m. (PST) Wednesday in Jackson, Tenn.

The tournament concludes with the final March 21. All Vanguard games can be heard on the Internet at www.vanguard.edu, the school’s web site.

VOLLEYBALL

Michelle Fulton of Dana Hills High, a 6-foot middle blocker, has signed to play volleyball at Rhode Island, Laguna Beach Volleyball Club Coach Michael Soylular said.

Fulton was a second-team All-South Coast League selection.

BASEBALL

Capistrano Valley baseball player Kellan McConnell has committed to play for Santa Clara, Cougar Coach Bob Zamora said.

McConnell, a pitcher and shortstop, was a first-team All-South Coast League selection last season.

* Tickets are available for the annual Anaheim Chamber of Commerce Angels luncheon on March 31 at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel.

Angel Manager Mike Scioscia, many of his players and coaches as well as front-office personnel will be on hand. The luncheon, which starts at 11 a.m., includes a silent auction, with proceeds going to the Anaheim Achieves After School Program through the YMCA and the Anaheim Boys and Girls Club.

AWARDS

Mo Vaughn of the Angels and Marty McInnis of the Mighty Ducks will be honored along with 14 Anaheim-area high school student-athletes at the fourth annual Anaheim Chamber of Commerce Super Sports Mixer at 5:30 p.m. on March 22 at the Anaheim Sheraton Hotel.

The athletes will receive the Gene Autry Humanitarian Award for community service that has impacted the life of an individual, group or service organization.
