Pitching In, Horwitz Helps Crespi Win, 6-1

Brian Horwitz had three hits, three stolen bases, scored twice and retired three batters on four pitches in the seventh inning and Crespi High defeated Banning, 6-1, on Saturday in a semifinal game of the El Segundo tournament at Banning.

Clint Kofmehl had three strikeouts and gave up only one run and four hits in six innings for Crespi.

The Celts scored five runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Marshall Plouffe’s two-run double and Jonathan Oller’s two-run single.

Crespi (4-0) faces West Torrance in the championship game on a date to be determined.

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY TOURNAMENT

Harvard-Westlake 7, Franklin 5--David Milken stole home to score the go-ahead run in the seventh inning for the Wolverines (4-0) at Franklin.

Palmdale 9, North Hollywood 8--Matt Harrington hit a three-run triple and a two-run double for the Falcons (4-0) in a victory at North Hollywood.

John Baca drove in three runs with three hits for the Huskies (1-3), who committed nine errors. D.J. Lewis also had three hits for North Hollywood, including two doubles, and drove in a run.

EL SEGUNDO TOURNAMENT

Arcadia 6, Simi Valley 2--John Arishon had three hits and Eric Peach had two for the Pioneers (3-2) in a losing cause in the ninth-place game.

GLENDORA TOURNAMENT

Bonita 14, Crescenta Valley 12--David Decker had three hits--including a grand slam--and six runs batted in, but the Falcons (2-2) couldn’t overcome an 11-0 deficit in the third-place game at Henderson Field in Glendora.

Decker’s grand slam in the fifth cut Crescenta Valley’s deficit to 13-10 after Bonita (3-1) scored 11 runs on six hits and five walks in the first inning.

L.A. BAPTIST TOURNAMENT

Grace Brethren 8, Cathedral 3--Tim Thompson pitched a five-hitter with nine strikeouts and Shawn McClain hit a two-run homer and drove in four runs for the Lancers (2-0) in a first-round victory at Grace Brethren.

Campbell Hall 3, Fillmore 0--Dan Bruckner had a two-out, two-run single in the second and Sean Jody hit a solo home run in the fourth for the Vikings in a first-round game at Campbell Hall.

Michael Frost (2-0) allowed two hits, struck out seven and walked one in six innings for Campbell Hall (3-0).

MONTEBELLO TOURNAMENT

Montclair Prep 18, Whittier Pioneer 3--Seth Epstein (2-0) allowed two hits over five innings and had three hits and five RBIs for the Mounties in a pool-play game at Pioneer.

Epstein has allowed two hits in 10 innings.

Steven Yoo and Jordan Pursell each had two hits and two RBIs for Montclair Prep (2-1).

NONLEAGUE

San Marcos 12-4, Oxnard 0-6--Gary James had two hits and three RBIs in the second game to help the Yellowjackets get a split at San Marcos.

Alex Merricks had two hits in the second game for the Yellowjackets (2-1), including a home run.

Rick Hernandez (1-0) allowed one run on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk in five innings.

Santa Paula 7-9, Oak Park 4-6--Danny Torres had four hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs for the Cardinals in a sweep at Oak Park (0-2).

Freddy Lozano (1-0) pitched three scoreless innings of relief in the first game with three strikeouts and no walks. Lozano started the second game and pitched three innings, allowing two runs on two hits with three strikeouts, one walk and one hit batter.

Lancaster Desert Christian 14-19, Maranatha 3-15--Mike Argent had 10 strikeouts in six innings and hit two triples for the Knights in a sweep at Lancaster Desert Christian.

Phil Seston hit for the cycle, finishing with six RBIs for Desert Christian (5-0).

Providence 7-10, Flintridge Prep 4-7--Robbie Beaton drove in three runs and Devin Bryant two in the second game to help the Pioneers sweep at Providence.

Beaton had three hits and two RBIs, and Mike Reyes and Bryant each added two hits and two RBIs for the Pioneers (3-0) in the opener.
