Westlake Makes It Too Late Early for Crescenta Valley

Share

With a challenging schedule this week, Westlake High couldn’t have wished for a better beginning.

The Warriors scored 12 runs in the first four innings and routed Crescenta Valley, 12-2, in a nonleague baseball game Tuesday night at Stengel Field in Glendale that was halted after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

“Westlake can play in the Western State Conference and beat some teams the way they played,” Coach Phil Torres of Crescenta Valley said.

The Warriors (5-0), ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times, were as potent as ever.

As if they needed any help, the Falcons (2-3) provided it by committing six errors after making one through four games.

“The way we gave them outs was embarrassing,” Torres said.

The Warriors were helped by two errors, a wild pitch and a passed ball in a three-run first inning.

Crescenta Valley, which has won three consecutive Pacific League titles, committed three more errors in the fourth inning to fuel an eight-run inning.

Among the key hits for Westlake were home runs by Tyler Adamczyk and Michael Nickeas and a three-run double by Ryan McCarthy.

McCarthy went three for three and drove in five runs for the Warriors.

Tyler Carr (2-0) gave up a run and four hits before he was relieved by Adamczyk in the fifth inning.

The Warriors host Agoura today, play at Agoura on Friday and play El Camino Real in the San Fernando Valley tournament final Saturday at USC’s Dedeaux Field.
