Troy Stuns Sunny Hills in Boys’ Tennis

Share

The Troy boys’ tennis team ended two decades of frustration Thursday when it defeated seventh-ranked Sunny Hills, 10-8, beating the Lancers for the first time since 1978.

Jeffrey Das and Jennings Long weren’t even born the last time Troy beat the Lancers, but the freshmen proved instrumental in stopping the streak, each winning two of three singles matches.

“It’s a great feeling and a long time coming,” said Warrior Coach George Vallance, who was the Troy athletic director in 1978. “There were a lot of 6-12, 5-13 scores, too. We’ve had some shellackings, but I knew this would be the year.”
