Camarillo Fires School Record

Freshman Kyle Dowden of Camarillo High shot a three-over-par 74 and four of his teammates fired a 75 or 76 to help the Scorpions to a 376-443 victory over Oxnard in a Pacific View League boys’ golf match at Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo on Tuesday.

The 376 was a school record at Las Posas, bettering the Scorpions’ 377 from a March 16 match against defending Pacific View champion Rio Mesa.

Juniors Chris Briney and Randy Carpenter each shot a 75 for Camarillo (13-0, 4-0 in league) and senior Jordan Silvertrust and sophomore Jeff Riddle each had a 76.The Scorpions are off to their best start in at least 15 years.

Calabasas 399, Servite 403--Justin Ohye recorded one birdie and 15 pars, finishing with a two-over 73, and the Coyotes (7-1) handed the Friars their first loss in a nonleague match at Los Coyotes Country Club in Buena Park.

Servite (5-1) finished second in CIF-Southern California Golf Assn. Championship last year and returned its top five players.

Foothill League Match No. 2--Brian Edick shot a one-over 62 to lead five Hart players under 70 in the match at Vista Valencia Golf Course in Valencia.

Hart (18-5, 10-0) had a 323 total to improve to 209-0-1 in league play in the last 11 seasons.

Valencia (15-5, 8-2) finished second with 345. Canyon (5-10-2) and Saugus (9-11-1) tied for third with 361.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Grant def. North Hollywood, 17-15, 15-9, 15-9--Ron Roiz had 15 kills and six blocks, and Nino Loquellano added 51 assists and six blocks for the host Lancers (6-2, 4-1) in a Sunset Six League victory.

Oxnard def. Camarillo, 11-15, 15-12, 15-13, 15-2--Mike Lavaglio had 21 kills and Rubin Castellon had 14 for the host Yellowjackets (6-1, 5-0) in the Pacific View League match.

BOYS’ TRACK

St. Francis 101, Alemany 25--Travis Ostrom was one of three Golden Knights who won two events in a Mission League meet at Occidental College.

Ostrom, who won the open 800 in the Pasadena Games at Pasadena City College on Saturday night, clocked 2:02.0 in that event and 4:45.0 in the 1,600.

Teammate Kenny Garcia won the 100 in 10.9 and the 200 in 23.0.

Sprinter Derek Goodman of Alemany didn’t run because he was playing in the Indians’ 15-1 loss to Loyola in baseball.
