Wygant Has Eventful Day and Camarillo Wins, 108-19

Senior Lisa Wygant of Camarillo High won her customary four events to pace the Scorpions to a 108-19 victory over Channel Islands in a Pacific View League girls’ track and field meet Wednesday at Channel Islands.

Wygant, defending league champion in the 100-meter high hurdles, 300 lows, high jump and triple jump, won those events with marks of 16.5, 50.3, 5-6 and 34-0.

Wygant, who tied for third in the high jump in the Southern Section Division I final last year, matched her career best in that event for the Scorpions (5-0, 3-0 in league meets), ranked No. 6 in the region by The Times.

Nicole Richardson won the 800 in 2:38.3 and the 3,200 in 12:21.0 for Camarillo, which will meet No. 3 Rio Mesa in a league-title showdown next Thursday.

Shad Hopkins helped Camarillo (2-3, 1-2) to an 82-43 victory in the boys’ meet by winning the 1,600 in 4:42.1 and the 3,200 in 10:16.0.

MEN’S TRACK

Southern California junior college decathlon championships--Aaron Thompson of College of the Canyons totaled 5,934 points to finish fourth at Cerritos College.

Thompson had marks of 15.82 in the 110 high hurdles, 103-2 in the discus, 8-4 in the pole vault, 122-8 in the javelin and 4:37.28 in the 1,500 on the second day of the two-day competition.

BOYS’ GOLF

Flintridge Prep 189, Azusa 227--Jeff Osborn shot a one-under-par 33 for nine holes to pace the Rebels (11-1-1) to a nonleague victory at Azusa Greens Golf Course.

Osborn, a junior, had two birdies and a bogey.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Westlake 17, Newbury Park 1--Alex Yaftali swept three singles sets to lead the Warriors (8-0, 7-0) to a Marmonte League victory at Newbury Park.

Agoura 12, Simi Valley 6--Tim Mullane and Rudy Barajas swept in singles for Agoura (6-12, 4-2) in a Marmonte League match at Simi Valley.

Mullane dropped only two games.

Jeremiah Waggoner and J.P. Agustin swept three doubles matches to remain undefeated this season for Simi Valley (8-4, 3-3).
