Marciano, D’Ambra Carry Northridge Into Golf Regionals

Anthony Marciano and Paul D’Ambra will lead the Cal State Northridge men’s golf team into the NCAA regionals May 18-20 at River Bend Golf Course in Madera, Calif. The regional is hosted by Fresno State.

Marciano won the individual title by two strokes and the Matadors won the Big Sky Conference tournament Wednesday at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard. The victory earned Northridge a bid in the regional.

Marciano shot a three-under-par 213 in the three-round event. D’Ambra placed fourth with a 216.

Northridge won the team competition with an 866. Idaho State was second at 873.

The conference title was Northridge’s first in any sport this school year.

The Northridge men’s soccer team will play its alumni game tonight at 7:30 at North Campus Stadium.

Former players expected to play include Matt Davis, Teddy Davila, Jose Perez, Bobby Reyes, Ross Linhart, Jeff Blumkin and Mark Goodwin.

Former Crescenta Valley High All-American Michelle Greco, a sophomore at UCLA, has been invited to attend the 2000 USA Basketball Women’s Summer Development Camp from May 17-22 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Greco will compete with, among others, Bruin teammate Nicole Kaczmarski, Pepperdine’s Rasheeda Clark and UC Santa Barbara’s Erin Buescher for 12 spots on the R. William Jones Cup team, which will play in a tournament July 16-20 in Taipei, Taiwan. The U.S. is the defending champion.

Greco, a 5-foot-9 guard, averaged 9.2 points and 3.2 rebounds and was selected All-Pacific 10 honorable mention. Clark, a junior guard who led Pepperdine to the West Coast Conference regular-season title and was conference player of the year, averaged 15.5 points and 3.5 assists.
