Chapman Wins Two in San Diego

Chapman’s Pat Stevens hit for the cycle, scored three runs and drove in four to help the Panthers defeat Cal Lutheran, 13-4, in the UC San Diego tournament Sunday.

Stevens’ home run was his 12th of the season. Bobby Calderon also homered and Eric Albright had three runs batted in for the Panthers (28-10-1), who also defeated Redlands, 8-5, in another tournament game, and enhanced their chances for an NCAA Division III at-large playoff berth.

In Big West Conference softball:

Cal State Fullerton 4, New Mexico State 0--Christy Robitaille’s eight-hitter and Monica Lucatero’s two-run single lifted the No. 14 Titans (43-11, 18-3), who clinched at least a tie for the conference title.

In Big West baseball:

Long Beach State 4, Pacific 3--Long Beach’s Josh Alliston got Jason Walker to ground out in the ninth with the tying run on third base to earn his ninth save and give the 49ers a three-game sweep.

At the Steve Scott Invitational track and field meet:

Titans finish second--The Cal State Fullerton men’s 400 (40.84) and 800 (3:13.52) relay teams finished second. UC Irvine’s Kareen Nilsson finished fourth in the women’s 3,000 (9:56.16).
