Friars, Eagles Advance to Section Team Finals

Servite finished first and Santa Margarita second at the Western Divisional boys’ golf team championships Monday at Los Angeles Royal Vista in Diamond Bar.

Both teams advance to the Southern Section finals Thursday at Saticoy in Somis.

The Friars shot a team score of 13-over 368 on the par-71 East-North course, a 6,211-yard layout. Servite finished six shots ahead of Santa Margarita and 12 ahead of third-place Diamond Bar.

Nico Bollini of Servite made 16 pars in his round of par 71. Ryan Cole and Jordan Nasser shot 73s, R.J. Nones shot 75 and Ryan Heidorn a 76.

Cole, Nasser, Nones and Heidorn each birdied the seventh hole, a 521-yard par five, and Bollini made par on the hole. Heidorn had three birdies during his round.

Taylor Wood shot 71 for Santa Margarita, Scott Manley shot 75 and Steve Conway, Dave Hawkins and Mike Farrell had 76s.

Diamond Bar’s Kevin Na was the medalist with a two-under 69.

At the Southern Divisional:

Oilers finish second--Huntington Beach shot 16-over 376 and qualified second behind Long Beach Wilson (371) at Los Serranos.

Andy Anderson shot a two-under 70 to lead Huntington Beach. Anderson birdied the 12th, a par four, and three of the four par fives. Anderson finished with five birdies, a bogey and a double bogey. Jason Katzen and Kevin Kohara shot 76s and Andy Leavelle and Kevin Noble shot 77s.

University (383) missed qualifying by seven strokes and finished third. Corona del Mar and Esperanza tied for fifth (386) and Edison and Brea Olinda tied for seventh.

At the Central Divisional:

Sunny Hills takes fourth--The Lancers missed qualifying at Sun Lakes in Banning after shooting 40-over 400. Cerritos finished first with a 374, Glendora was second (386) and Upland third (391).

Mike Rim shot 75, Daniel Do 78, Irene Cho 80, Mike Kim 83 and Philip Chang 84 for Sunny Hills.

“It was pretty windy,” said Sunny Hills Coach Tim Devaney. “It affected a lot of the scores.”

At the Central Coast Divisional:

Atascadero, Santa Ynez advance--Atascadero shot 35-over 395 and Santa Ynez shot 397 at La Purisima in Lompoc to advance to the team finals. Defending section champion Santa Barbara San Marcos (412) and two-time champion Westlake (402) failed to advance.

In the Northern Divisional:

Loyola, Oak Park advance--Los Angeles Loyola (367) and Agoura Oak Park (376) claimed the two berths at Soule Park in Ojai.
