Castellani Takes Third at Diving Finals
Sophomore Joey Castellani of Crescenta Valley High finished third behind two record-setting divers from Orange County in boys’ competition of the Southern Section Division II finals Wednesday at Claremont McKenna Aquatics Complex.
Castellani scored 381.45 points, but was far outdistanced by Anaheim Servite freshman Michael Hilde, who won with a Division II-record 601.80 points.
Hilde was followed by Irvine University junior Louie Gagnet, who had 582.85 points. Gagnet set the division record last year with 589.60 points.
Junior Eric Lederman of Harvard-Westlake finished seventh with 310.20 points. Camarillo’s Nathan Burdine was ninth and Rio Mesa’s Matthew Doucette was 10th.
They were followed by three Crescenta Valley divers as the Falcons scored 29 points toward their total in the Division II swimming championships Saturday.
Junior Stephen Grivno placed 11th, sophomore Dan Fekete was 13th and sophomore Michael Hoy was 14th.
In girls’ competition, Kasey Reinhard of Crescenta Valley finished third for the second consecutive year, scoring 424.75 points to finish behind repeat champion Kristin Littell of Chino Don Lugo (500.55) and Takako Nabeshima (446.65) of Cypress.
Glendale freshman Jennifer Miller was fourth with 406.95 points and Crescenta Valley’s Cassidy Farwell was fifth at 386.00
