Viewpoint emerged from the muddled Liberty League race?

The Patriots (12-6, 7-3 in league play) finished a game ahead of Providence, Windward and Avalon in a down-to-the-wire finish.

Viewpoint defeated Windward, 6-4, last Friday thanks to a three-run fourth inning highlighted by Nick Fries stealing home.

The Patriots won their sixth consecutive league title, winning the last three in the Liberty League and three in the Heritage League from 1995-97.

Viewpoint hosts Granada Hills Hillcrest Christian today in a first-round Division VI playoff game.

Mike Bresnahan previously covered the Lakers for the Los Angeles Times.
