Tommy Barber of Notre Dame High continued a hot streak that began two weeks ago by shooting a three-under-par 69 to tie for fourth place in the Southern Section individual boys’ golf championships at Canyon Country Club in Palm Springs on Monday.

Barber’s round followed a three-under 68 in the North Regional individual tournament at Montecito Country Club in Santa Barbara on May 15 and a two-under 70 in the Northern Regional team tournament at Soule Park Golf Course on May 8.

Nico Bollini of Anaheim Servite fired a 67 to win the tournament by a stroke over Mike Rim of Fullerton Sunny Hills and Pan Singhaseni of Beverly Hills.

Bollini, who recently switched to a cross-handed putting grip in an attempt to cure his putting problems, had three birdies and an eagle in his bogey-free round.

Barber, who has signed a letter of intent with Long Beach State, was one of five players from the region who placed among the top 23 finishers to advance to the CIF-Southern California Golf Assn. championships at The Players’ Club in Murrieta on June 6.

The others were Mark Modglin of Simi Valley, who fired a 71 to tie for 10th, freshman Anthony Kim of Campbell Hall and Ryan Benko of Village Christian, who each shot a 72 to tie for 12th, and Jacob Curtier of Quartz Hill, who shot a 73 to tie for 18th.

Roy Moon of Royal, Justin Ohye of Calabasas, Brian Edick of Hart, Jeff Osborn of Flintridge Prep and Doug Miller of Westlake were among the non-qualifiers.

Moon, The Times’ 1999 region player of the year, tied for fifth in the section last year with a 69, but struggled to a 77 on Monday. Osborn shot a 74, with Edick at 76, and Ohye and Miller at 80.
