Esperanza’s Six Wins Sunset Individual Title

Senior Kelly Six of Esperanza defeated teammate H.R. Espiritu, 6-4, 6-1, to win the Sunset League individual girls’ tennis title Thursday at the Old Ranch Tennis Club in Seal Beach.

Melissa Selmanson and Gia Nafarrete won the doubles title, beating Jessica Rice and Megan Feichter of Edison, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.

In the Empire League semifinals:

Dao advances--Kim Dao of El Dorado beat Joyce Kim of Cypress to advance to the league finals.

Dao won, 6-1, 6-2, and will face Katella’s Christine Ricohermoso, who defeated Gunjan Nanda of Cypress, 6-2, 6-1.

In the Olympic League finals:

Conrad singles champion--Casey Conrad from Calvary Chapel defeated Megan Fate from Cerritos Valley Christian, 6-2, 6-4, to win the singles title.

In doubles, Orange Lutheran had three of the four doubles teams in the semifinals but couldn’t win the title as Katie Conklin and Bianca Valenti from St. Margaret’s defeated the Lancers’ Megan Barnes and Christine LaLonde, 6-4, 6-2.

In the Orange League finals:

Western players win--Juniors Chrito Austria and Rebecca Kim won the doubles title in a four-hour match over Western teammates Melissa Dofredo and Quang Tran, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7).

Dofredo and Tran had two match points at 6-5 and 7-6 in the third-set tiebreaker, but Austria and Kim won the final three points to take the title. Western junior Sabrina Tanamal beat teammate Uyen Dihn, 6-1, 6-4, to win the singles title.

In the South Coast League finals:

Dolphins sweep--All the participants in the singles and doubles championship matches were from Dana Hills.

Top-seeded Kady Pooler defeated Chelsy Thompson, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, in the singles championship match. Second-seeded Kristen Wilson and Kristin Bronowicki defeated fourth-seeded Adriana Maracini and Amy Vyhnis, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, in doubles.
