Granada Hills High lost only two games in beating Fremont, 7-0, in the first round of the City Section girls’ tennis playoffs Tuesday at Granada Hills.

Jasmin Dao at No. 1 singles, and Caryn Linder and Shannon Slotnick at No. 1 doubles each gave up a game for the Highlanders (14-0), the defending City champions.

Dao defeated Esmeralda Goytia, 6-1, 6-0, and Linder and Slotnick beat Maria Gallegos and Juanita Guzman, 6-1, 6-0.

Granada Hills has not lost a set all season.

Singles players Christine Dao, Canna Furuta and Yuka Otaka did not surrender a game against Fremont (9-2).

The Highlanders’ No. 2 doubles team of Andrea Blieden and Tracey Takeshita, and the third team of Robin Meselson and Jessica Lee also won by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

Verdugo Hills 6, South Gate 1--Roxy Ionescu won, 7-6 (5), 6-1, at No. 1 singles and the Dons (16-0) won a City first-round match at Verdugo Hills.

Verdugo Hills’ No. 1 team of Amy Pham and Helen Luu won, 6-1, 6-1.

San Fernando 6, Narbonne 1--No. 3 singles player Veasna Phao (13-1) and the No. 1 doubles team of Valerie Mendoza and Karina Rojas (12-2) did not lose a game for the Tigers (14-0) in a first-round match of the City playoffs.

Kennedy 4, Palisades 3--Amy Abeshyan defeated Floane Miller, 7-6 (9), 6-2, at No. 3 singles to give No. 11-seeded Kennedy (14-3) a first-round victory at Palisades.

North Hollywood 7, Jefferson 0--Angela Jekal defeated Juana Renteria, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 singles and the top-seeded Huskies (12-4) swept an Invitational first-round match at North Hollywood.

Grant 4, University 3--No. 4 player Jennifer Yan defeated Vivian Son, 6-1, 6-1, in the last match and the Lancers (10-6) won an Invitational first-round match at University.

Shayna Fox (14-1) beat Flavia Bucia, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 singles to pull Grant into a 3-3 tie and set up the ninth-seeded Lancers’ singles sweep.

Valencia 10, Oxnard 8--Ashley Herrera beat Falon Lopez, 6-4, at No. 1 singles to help the Vikings win a Division I wild-card playoff match at Valencia.

Herrera (51-9) swept three sets for Valencia (11-7).
