FIELD REPORT
There were two Uebelhardts on the sideline at the Simi Valley-Royal game.
Sophomore Kyle Uebelhardt, son of Royal coach Gene Uebelhardt, was called up to varsity as a backup quarterback for the Highlanders.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder passed for 27 touchdowns in eight games on the junior varsity. He serves as a backup to junior James Cox, who has thrown 11 touchdown passes and rushed for seven others.
“James is so mobile and gets in there and gets his jersey dirty a lot, and we needed another quarterback to back him up,” Gene Uebelhardt said.
With a 42-8 victory over winless Simi Valley, Royal (5-3-1, 2-2-1 in the Marmonte League) clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 1994.
