Fairmont Ends Season With a 48-0 Loss

Matt Madrid and Marcellous Glasper combined to rush for 332 yards and five touchdowns to lead Downey Calvary Chapel to a 48-0 Academy League victory over Fairmont Thursday at Downey St. Matthias High School.

Glasper rushed 10 times for 147 yards and scored on runs of 14, 16 and 55 yards. Madrid rushed for 185 yards in 16 carries and had two five-yard touchdown runs.

Calvary Chapel (8-2, 3-1) used 10 players to rush 42 times for 464 yards.

The Grizzlies will enter the Southern Section Division XIII playoffs as the league’s second-place team.

Fairmont (2-7, 0-4), which was missing eight players, including six starters, who were away on a European tour, managed only 53 yards (23 rushing, 30 passing). Justin Harris led the Huskies in rushing with 22 yards in 13 carries. Matt Gomez completed four passes in 13 attempts for 30 yards.

Trailing, 16-0, Fairmont put together a 13-play drive and took the ball to Calvary Chapel’s nine-yard line. However, Gomez was sacked on successive plays, allowing the Grizzlies to take possession at the 25.
