Golden West States Its Case in Water Polo

Mike McDay and Kevin Marsh each had eight goals to lead Golden West to a 20-4 victory over Sierra in the first round of the state men’s water polo tournament Friday at Mt. San Antonio College.

Top-ranked Golden West will meet Citrus at 3:30 p.m. today in a semifinal.

In the state women’s water polo tournament:

Golden West 28, Foothill 2--Anna Korobova scored five times in the first quarter as the top-ranked Rustlers ran away with a first-round game at Mt. SAC.

Korobova finished with eight goals, Melissa Garrison had five and Gaby Garcia and Micha Burden each had four for the Rustlers (33-1).

Orange Coast 10, Merced 5--Daylene Coberly and Neisha Hoagland each scored three goals to lead Orange Coast. Erin Kennedy had 11 saves for the Pirates.

In the Porterville men’s basketball tournament:

Merritt 61, Cypress 56--Adam Rachlin had 23 points and five assists and D.J. Lucas scored 12 points and had seven rebounds for Cypress (0-4). Pat Douglass added 10 points for the Chargers.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Orange Coast 60, El Camino 55--Kristen Urban scored 15 points and Nadia Mojica had 15 rebounds and 10 points to lead host Orange Coast (2-2), which led 28-18 at halftime.

Tiffany Servio had 23 points and 17 rebounds for El Camino (3-2).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:

Golden West 3, Saddleback 0--Golden West finished its regular season with its 83rd consecutive victory. Raimi Mitchell had 11 kills and eight blocks and Amanda Siler had nine kills and 36 assists in the 15-2, 15-8, 15-6 victory.

Irvine Valley 3, Santa Ana 0--Beth Waterman had 11 kills for Irvine Valley (17-3, 11-3), which won 15-4, 15-5, 15-0.

Orange Coast 3, Riverside 0--Natasha Evylnn and Lauren Wilson each had 15 kills to help Orange Coast (16-6, 11-3) to a 15-4, 15-8, 15-8 victory.
