Geery’s Feats Unsettling for Coach

Share

Adam Geery is playing with reckless abandon, dashing around throwing touchdown passes and leading Kennedy High to victory.

Manny Alvarado is holding his breath.

“And covering my eyes,” Alvarado said.

Geery, Kennedy’s junior quarterback, also happens to be the school’s ace pitcher. Alvarado is the baseball coach.

“I try not to think about him getting hurt because then it’s bound to happen,” said Alvarado, who is on the Kennedy sideline every week.

Geery pitched a complete game to beat El Camino Real at Dodger Stadium in the City Section final in June.

Now he is slaying giants on the football field.

Geery passed for 204 yards in Kennedy’s 27-22 upset of Taft last week, connecting with Efren Lopez on a 32-yard touchdown pass with 35 seconds to play.

“He’s having fun out there, that much I can tell,” Alvarado said.
