Paraclete 33, Village Christian 14--After being held to 45 yards rushing for more than three quarters, Curtis Brown saved his best for the final nine minutes.

He rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns during that span to help the Spirits (5-1) pull away for a victory in an Alpha League opener at Kennedy High.

Brown, who finished with 130 yards in 13 carries, scored on runs of 20 and 31 yards, breaking numerous tackles on both touchdowns.

“He’s a very motivated young man and one man’s not going to bring him down,” Coach Jeff Cortez of Paraclete said.

Michael Washington ran for 52 yards in five carries, catching two passes for 36 yards and returning an interception 65 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Village Christian (3-3, 0-1) stayed close for three quarters behind Neil Gunn, who completed 17 of 29 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns.

Paraclete, which has won two consecutive league titles, had a 345 to 234 advantage in offense.
