Saturday’s football bye week in the Western State Conference came at a good time for College of the Canyons.

And a bad time.

“We had some guys banged up, so it got us healthy,” Coach Chuck Lyon said.

The Cougars are getting back quarterback David Parker and linebacker Reggie Everett, among others, for an interdivisional game against West L.A. on Saturday night at Canyons.

Parker was sidelined with a hip pointer and Everett had stitches over one eye.

But the idle time could slow the Cougars (5-0, 3-0 in WSC play), ranked No. 5 in the state.

“It’s going to disrupt the timing [on plays], maybe the momentum,” Lyon said. “But there’s nothing you can do about it.”

Antelope Valley could have used a bye week.

The Marauders played Southwestern tough for much of the Foothill Conference game before losing, 30-10, on Saturday in Lancaster.

Antelope Valley has faced four teams ranked among the top 20 in the state, including consecutive losses to Chaffey, then ranked No. 8, and Southwestern, ranked No. 8.

The combined record of Antelope Valley’s opponents is 24-6.
