San Clemente Tops Foothill in Water Polo

Seniors Pat McCann and Josh Hewko each scored two goals to lead sixth-ranked San Clemente to a 6-4 nonleague victory over fourth-ranked Foothill in a boys’ water polo game Monday at El Toro High.

San Clemente took a 4-3 lead at the half and scored two early goals in the third quarter to push the lead to 6-3. Goalie Thomas Kadar had 12 saves for the Tritons (12-4) and allowed one second-half goal.

Brian Alexander and Wes Fox each scored twice for Foothill (13-9). Goalie Ian Elliott had nine saves.

In another nonleague game:

No. 10 Edison 15, El Modena 2--Sophomore Cody Tague scored four goals and had eight steals to lead visiting Edison (14-5) to the win. Matt Budnick added five goals for the Chargers.

In Ocean League girls’ golf:

Ocean View 147, Manhattan Beach Mira Costa 180--Nicole Peralta of Ocean View (7-4, 4-2) medaled for the 11th consecutive match with an eight-over 45 at Alondra Park in Lawndale.

In the Pacific Coast League:

No. 1 University 111, Laguna Beach 153--Angela Won, who had an eagle on the par-five sixth hole, finished with a three-under 32 for University (12-0, 7-0) at Aliso Viejo. Sunny Lee shot 39 for the Trojans.

In the Serra League:

No. 6 Rosary 129, No. 3 Santa Margarita 133--Jenn Sanders shot a three-over 39 with birdies on the first and sixth holes at Tijeras Creek for Rosary (11-2, 3-2). Santa Margarita is 11-2, 5-1.

In the Sunset League:

No. 10 Esperanza 98, Huntington Beach 118--Kayley Parrett shot one-over 30 with birdies on the par-three second and the par-four fifth for Esperanza (10-2, 5-2) at Birch Hills.

In nonleague golf:

No. 4 Aliso Niguel 259, Palos Verdes Peninsula 276--Freshman Leisl Hasbrouck shot a combined five-over 77 at Palos Verdes and Monarch Beach for Aliso Niguel (13-1).

In Garden Grove League girls’ tennis:

Garden Grove 10, Bolsa Grande 8--No. 1 singles player Ngoc An Huynh won her final set, 6-4, over Nancy Quan to give Garden Grove (12-5, 7-1) the decisive point in the completion of a match that was suspended due to darkness last Tuesday.

Lisa Pedraza swept her singles sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-1, for Bolsa Grande (11-2, 7-1).

In Freeway League girls’ volleyball:

Fullerton 3, Sonora 1--Ashley Sutherland had 14 kills to help host Fullerton (6-4, 2-3) win, 15-3, 10-15, 15-13, 15-10.

In the Pacific Coast League:

No. 5 Laguna Beach 3, Northwood 0--Sarah Salem had seven kills for host Laguna Beach (8-5, 4-1), which won, 15-2, 15-6, 15-10.
