Harvard-Westlake Edged by Wilson

Rick Offsay scored four goals for Harvard-Westlake High, but the Wolverines were unable to catch Long Beach Wilson in a 10-9 loss in a nonleague water polo game Saturday at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.

Wilson, ranked No. 3 in Southern Section Division I and the defending champion, clung to a one-goal lead for most of the game. The Bruins took a 3-2 lead after one quarter and led, 5-4, at halftime before three third-quarter goals put them ahead, 8-6.

Harvard-Westlake (15-3), ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times and No. 5 in Division I, closed to within the final margin with three goals in the fourth quarter.

Eric Townsend had three goals for the Wolverines.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

CS Northridge def. Northern Arizona, 12-15, 7-15, 15-3, 17-15, 15-13--Jennifer McNees had 21 kills and Heather Zall had 47 assists and 19 digs for the Matadors (13-5, 7-3) in a Big Sky Conference match at Northern Arizona.

Alexis Cormier had 16 kills and 14 digs, and Laura Szymanski added 13 kills and 16 digs for Northridge.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Cal Lutheran 8, Whittier 1--Alix Rucinski scored three goals and Jennifer Agostino added two goals for the Regals (15-3, 10-0) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Cal Lutheran.

Betsy Fisch, Alia Khan and Ciera Diaz also scored for the Regals, who clinched a tie for their 10th consecutive SCIAC championship.

Libby Barnish scored the only goal for Whittier (2-14, 1-9) in the 65th minute.

The Master’s 2, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 1--Sarah Riojas scored twice for the Mustangs, including the game-winner early in the second half of a nonconference game at Claremont Mudd-Scripps.

Debra Anderson made eight saves for Master’s.

MEN’S SOCCER

Cal Lutheran 3, Whittier 1--Oskar Kantoft scored twice for the Kingsmen (11-4-1, 8-2-1) in a SCIAC game at Cal Lutheran.

Kantoft has 17 goals this season and 50 in his career.

David Maupin scored Cal Lutheran’s second goal in the 24th minute off a pass from Kantoft.

The Master’s 1, U.S. International University 0--Cassidy Moulton scored in the 40th minute to spark the Mustangs (15-3) in a nonconference game at Master’s.
