SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Mike Jasper passed for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Camarillo High to a 28-6 victory over Oxnard in a Pacific View League game Friday night.

The Scorpions (4-4, 2-1 in league play) were without running back Loren Cerny, who leads Camarillo in rushing with 901 yards and 13 touchdowns. Cerny has a sprained ankle.

However, sophomore Marc Kawamoto rushed for 96 yards in 18 carries in his first game for Camarillo, which climbed back into the race for the league title.

“I just wanted to help the team,” Kawamoto said. “I was a little nervous at first, but the offensive line did a great job of blocking for me.”

Jasper threw two touchdown passes to Chris Alvarado. They connected on a 40-yard play in the first quarter to open the scoring and hooked up again on a 31-yard touchdown to give the Scorpions a 28-0 lead with four minutes to play.

Mike Gonzalez had a five-yard touchdown run for Camarillo early in the second quarter and Jasper ran nine yards on a bootleg for a touchdown and a 21-0 lead early in the fourth quarter.

The Scorpions outgained Oxnard, 341 yards to 160, and did not allow the Yellowjackets inside their 49-yard line until the final two minutes. The Scorpions rushed for 209 yards and held Oxnard to 102.

Jasper completed eight of 14 passes for 132 yards with one interception. Alvarado had three receptions for 74 yards.

The Yellowjackets were limited to two first downs before the fourth quarter and failed to score until Jason Parker caught a 10-yard pass from Tim Eglin with 44 seconds remaining.
