Northridge Women Dig Deep but Lose

Laura Szymanski had 18 kills and 16 digs, and Jennifer McNees added 14 kills and 14 digs, but Cal State Northridge lost to Montana State, 12-15, 15-6, 15-7, 14-16, 15-10, in a Big Sky Conference women’s volleyball match Saturday at Montana State.

Heather Zall had 49 assists and 14 digs for the Matadors (13-7, 7-5 in conference play) and Alexis Cormier added 12 kills and 22 digs.

Anne Watts of Montana State (18-5, 8-4) had 21 kills and 14 digs.

MEN’S SOCCER

Claremont Mudd-Scripps 2, Cal Lutheran 1--Ha’vard Aschim scored for the Kingsmen midway through the first half on an assist by goalie Jose Brotherton in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at Cal Lutheran.

Eric Henderson tied the score on a penalty kick early in the second half and Eric Hass put Claremont Mudd-Scripps (16-2-1, 10-2-1) ahead in the 61st minute.

Brotherton made three saves for Cal Lutheran (13-5-1, 9-3-1), which dropped into fourth place in the conference.

MEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY

Big Sky Conference Championships--Nick Hamlin finished 37th in 26:16.14 for the Matadors, who came in eighth at UC Riverside.

Warren Davis was 50th in 27:35.9 and Hon Straw was 51st for Northridge in 27:41.66.

Kevin Koeper of Northern Arizona won the eight-kilometer race in 24:23.9 and the Lumberjacks were first with 31 points.

WOMEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY

Big Sky Conference Championships--Marisol Barajas was 20th in 18:17.6 for the Matadors, who finished eighth at UC Riverside.

Frances Santin ran the five-kilometer course in 19:20.5 and finished 41st out of 59 runners. Yadira Ramirez was Northridge’s third scorer, finishing 47th in 19:41.6. Rosanna Kirkendall finished 53rd in 20:10.5.

Sabrina Monro of Montana won in 17:07.2.

Weber State won with 33 points.

MEN’S WATER POLO

Pepperdine 10, Pacific 9--Chris Tilden’s third goal of the game clinched in the final two minutes a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation victory at Pepperdine.

Pepperdine is 10-6, 2-2.
