OUTLOOK

As a junior varsity team last season with a freelance schedule, Northwood went 6-3-1. Other coaches in the league think second-year Northwood is on a fast track to becoming very good very quickly. There are no seniors at the Irvine school, so they will probably suffer growing pains that accompany most teams with only juniors and sophomores. Curtis was an assistant at Irvine under Terry Henigan before moving to Northwood as the athletic director and football coach. Keating, Lucas and Meyer are untested running backs, and they’ll be running behind an inexperienced offensive line. If the line develops and someone emerges as a rushing threat, the Timberwolves might be in business. Curtis has a lot of confidence in Tomcheck, and thinks the quarterback will be on target to Bentrott, Lucas and Anderson. The defense should be in a little better shape. Though smallish on the defensive line, Lucas and Harper provide a lot of quickness, and with Bentrott, Smith and Fairbanks, there’s a suitable collection of linebackers.
