Mater Dei’s brutal September schedule gets off to a potentially rocky start tonight against Fallbrook, the top-ranked team from San Diego County. The Warriors already showed their might with a 38-0 thrashing of San Marcos last week. Mater Dei will be pressed to shut down Fallbrook’s wing-T offense, which allowed four backs to rush for at least 50 yards a week ago. Mater Dei quarterback Matt Leinart, considered among the country’s best college prospects, leads a talented cast of players capable of flexing some serious muscle.

Ben Bolch has been a Los Angeles Times staff writer since 1999.
