Northridge Opens Big Sky Play With Victory

Cal State Northridge won the last two games to defeat Northern Arizona, 14-16, 15-9, 8-15, 15-13, 15-8, in a Big Sky Conference women’s volleyball opener Thursday night at Northridge.

Laura Szymanski had 33 kills, Alexis Cormier had 21 kills and Jennifer McNees had 14 with 20 digs for Northridge (6-1).

MEN’S SOCCER

Cal Lutheran 1, UC Santa Cruz 0--Oskar Kantoft scored 10 minutes into the first overtime in a nonconference game at UC Santa Cruz. Kantoft scored from about five yards when Andrew Montenegro’s free kick was bobbled.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Dos Pueblos 11, Crescenta Valley 10--The Falcons were outscored, 7-0, in the second quarter in a first-round game of the Harvard-Westlake tournament.

Jeff Little led the Falcons (2-1) with three goals.

Harvard-Westlake 13, Agoura 7--Nine players scored for host Harvard-Westlake (3-0) in a first-round victory of its own tournament.

Crespi 12, Notre Dame 4--Danny Behrens scored five goals in a first-round game of the Harvard-Westlake tournament.

Thousand Oaks 12, Redondo Union 7--Eric Markle had six goals and Brian Barbachano had eight saves for the Lancers (3-3) in a nonleague victory at Redondo Union.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Harvard-Westlake def. Marina, 15-8, 15-3, 15-10--Courtney Schultz had eight kills in a nonleague victory for visiting Harvard-Westlake (2-0).

Buckley def. Milken Community, 15-1, 15-1, 15-13--Julia Beynon had eight kills and 10 blocks, and Deep Grewal had 17 assists for the Griffins (2-0) in a nonleague match.

Louisville def. Calabasas, 15-11, 15-11, 9-15, 15-6--Colleen Hamlin had seven kills and six aces, Megan O’Connell had 20 kills and seven aces, and the Royals (2-1) won a nonleague match at Louisville.

L.A. Baptist def. Oak Park, 15-13, 14-16, 9-15, 15-6, 15-10--Christina Ingram had eight kills and six aces in a nonleague victory for the host Knights (1-1).

La Reina def. Thousand Oaks, 15-4. 15-2, 15-12--Jennifer Ryan had 12 kills and 10 digs, and Ashlie Hain had 11 digs and 17 assists for No. 2-ranked La Reina (2-0) in a nonleague victory.

La Canada def. Notre Dame, 15-12, 15-13, 9-15, 15-11--Vanessa Young had 11 kills and four blocks, and Tracy Neumeier had seven kills, nine digs and 36 assists for the Spartans (2-1) in a nonleague victory at La Canada.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Ventura 12, Hart 6--Katie Hause and Sara Cid won, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles to lead the Cougars (3-0) in a nonleague match at Ventura.

Chaminade 11, Oak Park 7--Mahsa Merat and Alex Gummeson won, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 doubles to lead Chaminade (2-1) in a nonleague victory at Oak Park.

Royal 10, La Reina 8--Nicole Dembesky and Tiffanie Rivera won, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, in doubles to secure a nonleague victory for Royal (2-3) at La Reina.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Hart 112, Canyon 155, Littlerock 194--Sara Jones shot four birdies and three pars to finish two-under-par 31 for Hart in a nonleague nine-hole match at Vista Valencia Golf Club. Erica Leary shot 39 for the Indians (4-0).
