Kilionski Transfers to Thousand Oaks

Softball ace Mandy Kilionski has enrolled at Thousand Oaks High, Lancer Coach Gary Walin said Tuesday.

Kilionski, who was 8-3 with a 0.30 earned-run average after being promoted from the junior varsity midseason last year, transferred from Simi Valley last week.

She quit the Simi Valley team March 15, hours before the Pioneers played Thousand Oaks in a Marmonte League opener.

The sophomore right-hander, who struck out 117 in 93 innings, has not changed her residence and is not eligible to play varsity softball this season.

“She will not be participating with our team,” Walin said. “Right now, it’s a nonissue.”

Kilionski quit five games into the season because she wasn’t having fun, according to Simi Valley Coach Suzanne Manlet.

“She could have gone anywhere and she still could be going someplace else in the fall. If she shows up on our doorstop and registers in the fall, I’ll have to deal with other issues.”

Newbury Park received unexpected firepower Saturday when Amber Mastrioanni ended a season-long slump.

Mastrioanni doubled and homered, her first hits of the season, in the Panthers’ 6-0 victory over previously undefeated La Canada. Hours later, she singled twice against Kennedy.

“She was oh-fer . . . a lot,” Coach Lynn Baum said.
