Santa Ana Scores 8 in 7th to Beat Cypress

Santa Ana scored eight runs in the seventh inning and defeated Cypress, 12-5, Tuesday in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game at Santa Ana.

David Fischer’s third hit of the game, a three-run double, was the key hit in the seventh inning, which began with the Dons clinging to a 4-3 lead. Santa Ana’s Dustin Wagoner pitched a six-hitter, giving up two earned runs.

Santa Ana (23-4, 13-2) remained two games ahead of Riverside for first place.

Cypress (20-10, 8-7) fell into fifth place.

In other conference games:

Orange Coast 5, Fullerton 1--Greg Trimble had two hits, including a home run, for visiting Orange Coast (19-8, 9-6). Fullerton pitcher Wes O’Brien went the distance, striking out 10 and walking none, but threw three wild pitches and hit three batters.

The Hornets fell to 13-15, 6-8.

Riverside 15, Golden West 1--Riverside held the host Rustlers to four hits and finished with 19. Riverside (21-4, 11-4) led, 9-0, after three innings.

Saddleback 27, Irvine Valley 4--Jeff LaRue and Scott Cheo each had four RBIs for Saddleback, and David Blincoe came off the bench in the sixth inning and went two for two with three RBIs.

Saddleback (20-8, 9-6) is tied for third in the conference with Orange Coast.
