Ankle Injury Sidelines Barnes
Forward Matt Barnes sprained his left ankle Thursday at practice and will miss Saturday’s home game against UC Irvine.
Barnes, who recently recovered from an earlier ankle injury, stepped on center Dan Gadzuric’s foot. X-rays were negative, but Barnes will be sidelined until early next week and is questionable for the Pacific 10 Conference opener Thursday at Washington.
Barnes is coming off his best game, a 15-point, eight-rebound performance in a victory over Alabama at the Wooden Classic. The senior is averaging 9.5 points and 6.7 rebounds.
Sophomore T.J. Cummings, averaging 12 points and five rebounds as the sixth man, will probably start in Barnes’ place and the playing time of freshmen Andre Patterson and Dijon Thompson should increase.
