Gahr Can’t Handle Moore, Brea

Brea Olinda rallied to defeat Cerritos Gahr, 65-64, in overtime in a nonleague boys’ basketball game Friday at Gahr.

The Wildcats trailed by 13 points after three quarters and by 15 with six minutes remaining. But Ryan Moore, who finished with 32 points and seven assists, scored nine fourth-quarter points and made the tying basket with 10 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

Brea Olinda was down two points with 10 seconds left in overtime, but Moore’s three-pointer put his team ahead for good. Evan Moore then blocked Gahr’s final shot. Evan Moore had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Landon Lewis finished with 10 points.

Trailing, 28-23, at intermission, Brea Olinda fell behind, 47-34, after three quarters, before rallying.

In other nonleague games:

No. 3 El Toro 80, Irvine 39--Chris Parish scored 22 points, including four three-pointers, and Ashkan Nazeri had 16 points for visiting El Toro (15-1).

David Cox and Jorian Guinn had nine points each for Irvine.

No. 7 Newport Harbor 61, Estancia 51--Aaron Yarnall, who has made 24 consecutive free throws, scored 26 points for Newport Harbor (13-3). Eliasar Maldonado scored 20 points for Estancia (4-8).

No. 9 El Dorado 68, Valencia 51--El Dorado (14-2) trailed by eight points after the first quarter, but outscored Valencia, 55-30, the rest of the way.

David Patten, who scored the Hawks first nine points, finished with 20 points and Kyle Miller added 19, including five three-pointers.

Emmanuel Ortega led Valencia (11-6) with 14 points.

No. 8 Capistrano Valley 73, University 70--Jake Franzen had 17 points, and Justin Demere had 14, including four three-pointers, to lead Capistrano Valley (13-2). Jason Garey scored 29 points for University (8-7).

No. 10 Edison 70, Laguna Beach 45--Matt Gonzales made five three-pointers and finished with 23 points for the visiting Chargers (7-9).

Kyle McCarter and Kyong-Su Min scored 10 points each, and Richard Schwartz had nine points and 10 rebounds for Edison (7-9). Will Blodgett scored 10 points for Laguna Beach (4-11).

Katella 51, Savanna 50--Phillip Tyson’s tip-in in the final seconds gave Katella (11-5) the win. He finished with 20 points.

Mission Viejo 63, Corona del Mar 41--Travis Niesen scored 14 points, Matt Cole added 12 and Joe Fleskoski had 10 for the visiting Diablos (11-5). Eric Snell scored 13 points for Corona del Mar (5-11).

San Clemente 55, Fountain Valley 50--Tim Burnette had 14 points and 10 rebounds and James Hartman and Jordin Fleener added 11 points each for the Tritons (11-2). Tucker Fendon scored 12 points and Matt Ball had 11 for Fountain Valley.

Magnolia 67, Loara 57--Geoffrey Clayton scored 22 points and Rohneal Coleman had 21 for visiting Magnolia, which rallied from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit.

Northwood 81, Aliso Niguel 79--Trailing, 69-60, in the fourth quarter, Northwood came back and took the lead for good when Adam Roggero made a three-pointer with 37 seconds remaining. Drew Terry led the Timberwolves with 39 points, including eight three-pointers.

In the Century League:

No. 5 Villa Park 70, El Modena 44--Sean Phaler had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Spartans (12-2, 1-0).

In the Golden West League:

No. 4 Ocean View 77, Westminster 50--Marques Crane had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Torin Beeler added 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Seahawks (13-2, 2-0). Westminster is 8-11, 1-1.
