What: “NFL Films Presents--Pro Football’s Greatest Reunion”

Where: ESPN, today, 1:30 p.m.

During its 81 years, more than 16,000 men have played in the NFL. Of those, 204 have been selected for enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Last July, 111 returned to Canton. It was the largest gathering of hall of famers in the history of sports.

NFL Films interviewed many of those at the reunion and put together an incredible two-episode special for its “NFL Films Presents” series on ESPN and ESPN2. Part I was first shown Friday and Sunday, and will be shown three more times. Part II also will have five airings, the first Friday at 4:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

The genuine emotions and humility shown by those interviewed can bring a tear to your eye, and by interspersing action footage throughout, NFL Films has come up with another winner.

The highlight of the first part is a look inside the “Ray Nitschke Luncheon,” held the Friday of hall of fame weekend and exclusive to hall of famers. The luncheon has been named after the Green Bay Packer hall of fame linebacker who died in 1998.

The second part has a nice a segment on Dan Dierdorf, who grew up in Canton. “I could have walked from my home where I grew up to my induction ceremony,” he says. “You couldn’t make up a story like that.”
