LPGA’s Williams on Mend After Friday Car Wreck

Golfer Kim Williams was recovering Monday after suffering a broken collarbone and knee injury in a car wreck.

Williams was injured Friday, hours after she shot a par 72 in the first round of the season-opening LPGA event at Grand Cypress Resort. She was driving on a two-lane road when an oncoming driver had a seizure, swerved into her lane and hit her head-on, police said.

Williams, 37, was in stable condition at the Orlando Regional Medical Center after surgery Saturday on her right knee. It was not immediately clear when she would be released.

In 1994, Williams was hit in the neck by a stray bullet while walking into a store during the week of an LPGA tournament in Ohio. The bullet did not cause major injury and she finished 10th at the Toledo Classic the next week.

Williams enjoyed one of her best seasons in 2000, finishing in the top 10 three times.
