Cougars Edge El Toro, 1-0, on Moore’s Penalty Kick

Kristen Moore scored on a penalty kick late in the first half, giving top-ranked Capistrano Valley a 1-0 victory over No. 9 El Toro in a South Coast League girls’ soccer game at El Toro.

Moore scored the goal in the 32nd minute after Coco D’Angelo was tackled in the penalty box.

Staci Sinkway had five saves in goal for the Cougars (9-1-3, 1-0-1), who are tied with Mission Viejo for the No. 1 ranking.

Kristina Plumley had eight saves for El Toro (14-5-1, 1-1).

In other South Coast League games:

Dana Hills 0, San Clemente 0--Katie Shields had three saves in recording her fifth shutout of the season for host Dana Hills (6-7-3, 0-1-1).

Shayla Savin had two saves for San Clemente (7-3-4, 0-0-2).

No. 1 Mission Viejo 1, Trabuco Hills 0--Alyssa Arman scored the only goal for Mission Viejo (9-1-3, 3-0) in the 15th minute.

Staci Self had 14 saves for Trabuco Hills (5-8-2, 0-2).

In the Academy League:

Fairmont 2, Connelly 0--Andrea Shoukair and Aurora Leport scored a goal apiece and goalkeeper Janki Patel made three saves to record her sixth shutout of the season for visiting Fairmont (9-1-1, 2-0).

In the Century League:

El Modena 1, Foothill 0--Ashley Boyer scored a goal in the 68th minute to give El Modena its first league win. Jackie James had 13 saves for the Vanguards to record her second shutout of the year.

In the Empire League:

Cypress 4, Kennedy 1--Cypress scored three goals in a 10-minute span of the second half to break the game open. Nicole Woienberghe scored three goals for the Chargers (10-5, 2-0).

Brittany Nelson tied the score, 1-1, with a second-half goal for Kennedy (0-2 in league).

El Dorado 5, Century 1--El Dorado scored four goals in the second half to break a 1-1 tie.

Loara 1, Katella 0--Jaclyn Huniu recorded her seventh shutout this season for Loara. Daniela Martinez broke a scoreless tie in the 64th minute for the Saxons.

In the Freeway League:

No. 10 Sunny Hills 7, Fullerton 0--Renee Garand and Simi Phull each scored two goals for host Sunny Hills (17-0-2, 2-0-1), which bounced back from their tie with Troy Thursday. Megan Broschak had four assists for Sunny Hills.

Troy 3, La Habra 1--Katie Ratican scored all three goals for Troy (12-4-1, 2-0-1), which led, 1-0, at the half. La Habra is 13-3, 2-1.

In the Golden West League:

Saddleback 1, Tustin 0--Sandra Sandoval scored off a pass from Mayra Galvez with five minutes remaining for Saddleback (7-5-2, 1-1-1).

Santa Ana at Ocean View, postponed--The game was canceled when Santa Ana’s team was caught in a storm on a trip to the San Bernardino mountains.

The game was rescheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday at Ocean View.

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 3, Sierra Madre Maranantha 0--Jackie Steiner scored the first goal in the 43rd minute to break a 1-1 tie for visiting Orange Lutheran (13-3-4. 3-0-1). Nicole Johnson and Tiffany Green each scored a second-half goal for Orange Lutheran.

In the Orange League:

Valencia 3, Magnolia 0--Kim Gardner, Rubi Sandoval and Andrea Giambalvo each scored for host Valencia (7-7-2, 1-1).

Giambalvo also recorded an assist on Sandoval’s goal. Magnolia is 2-9, 1-2.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 3, Northwood 2--Nichelle Janti scored off a Tiffany Grodohl pass in the 66th minute to break a 2-2 tie for host Costa Mesa.

Sharon Day and Sarah Smallcomb also scored for the Mustangs (10-2-2, 2-0). Day’s goal was her 16th of the season and put Costa Mesa up, 2-1.

Katy Carter and Jackie Lamm scored for Northwood (0-1-1 in league).

In the Sunset League:

No. 8 Esperanza 7, Huntington Beach 0--Heather Jablonsky lead Esperanza, which had seven different goal scorers, with a goal and two assists. Brandie Baker recorded her seventh shutout of the year.

Los Alamitos 3, Fountain Valley 0--Quinn Crosby scored a goal in the 33rd minute and added her second of the game in the 66th minute for host Los Alamitos (9-6-1, 1-0-1). Niccole Grimaldi scored the other goal for Los Alamitos.

Marina 0, No. 7 Edison 0-- Edison keepers Ali Binder and Jenna Huff combined to shut out Marina (12-1-4, 1-0-1) and Lindsay Megill did the same for Marina (9-5-2, 0-0-2).
