When Buena defeated Ventura, 51-50, in a Channel League game at Ventura College on Friday, it moved the Bulldogs into a three-way tie for first place and ended a 10-game losing streak to their cross-town rivals.

“I’m pretty sure it was 10 games,” Buena Coach Glen Hannah quipped. “I’m too ashamed to look it up.”

Buena had several close games with Ventura during that stretch, but the Cougars always made the key plays at the end of those contests. Until Friday, when Roosevelt Bolden made a layup with six seconds to play to give Buena the victory.

“It was really good for Roosevelt and Ryan Cobos to finally beat those guys,” Hannah said. “Because they’re three-year starters and they had never beaten Ventura before.”
