A 2 1/2-year-old girl died Monday, a victim of a Sunday pool accident in Rancho Cucamonga that also killed her 18-month-old brother.

Angelica Figueroa died at 6:44 a.m. Monday at Loma Linda University Medical Center, authorities said. Her brother Eddie died Sunday evening at San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland.

The children, who were attending a family gathering, were found in an above-ground pool by their 11-year-old cousin, who tried to pull the 18-month-old from the pool, the toddlers’ aunt, Norma Gutierrez, said.

“He said he couldn’t pull them,” she said. “So he ran to call my sister.”

Sheriff’s deputies arrived within two minutes and began CPR, department spokesman Chip Patterson said.

“It was a really chaotic scene,” said Rancho Cucamonga Fire Capt. Ken Walker, whose crew arrived shortly after the deputies did. “We did what we could.”

The children had no pulse when deputies arrived. Doctors were able to restart the toddlers’ hearts at the hospital with medication, but they could not resuscitate them.

The children’s parents, Dimas Figueroa and Rosa Morales-Figueroa, had brought them from Los Angeles to Gutierrez’s home to see their grandparents, who were visiting from Mexico.
