11 TODAY PYRAMID, LONG BEACH STATE
Brethren Christian, the fourth-place team from the Olympic League, is trying to win its first title since 1998. The Warriors have had two three-game losing streaks, both in league, but have currently won six in a row. Brethren won its quarterfinal against St. Margaret’s by three points, 43-40, while Montclair’s closest playoff victory was a 54-46 win over San Bernardino Aquinas, also in the quarterfinals. Sarah Amberry, at 6 feet 2 inches, will play a pivotal role for Brethren Christian because the hopes of Montclair Prep, which is vying for its first section title, hinge largely on two players: 5-foot-11 Eshaya Murphy and 6-1 Jasmine Wesley. The teams have a common opponent with a notable difference: Montclair defeated Long Beach St. Anthony by 16 points, and Brethren Christian won by three.
