Dean’s List Helps Hart Win, 5-0

Sara Dean had two hits and drove in two runs for Hart High, which beat Thousand Oaks, 5-0, to win the Gold Division in the Hart softball tournament Saturday at Newhall Park.

Dean was selected tournament most valuable player after going six for nine with six runs batted in during four games.

Casey Pickard (1-0) of Hart pitched a three-hitter and struck out four.

Sisters Lindsey and Robyn Kontra combined on a one-hitter and the Indians (4-0) scored five runs in the fourth and beat Westlake, 6-1, in a semifinal.

In other Hart tournament games:

Highland 2, Sylmar 1--Shannon Doepking’s run-scoring single in the seventh gave the Bulldogs the Silver Division title.

Catcher Ashley D’Errico of Highland (3-1) threw out four baserunners.

Thousand Oaks 5, Agoura 0--Freshman Megan Spehar (2-0) pitched a two-hitter and struck out five in a semifinal.

Valencia 3, Ventura 0--Sophomore Tori Rocco pitched her third no-hitter for the Vikings (4-1) in a quarterfinal game at Newhall Park.

Valencia 9, Chatsworth 0--Christina Ross had 10 strikeouts as the Vikings (5-1) won on the eight-run mercy rule to win the Bronze Division.

In other games:

Camarillo 4, Righetti 1--Kati Bieniek hit a two-run single and a two-run sacrifice fly in the Cabrillo tournament championship game.

L.A. Baptist 10, Greenhill (Texas) 0--Katie Gustaveson pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts for the Knights at L.A. Baptist.

Desiree Poturny had three hits and three RBIs for L.A. Baptist (1-0).

Louisville 5, Notre Dame 0--Veronica Valencia pitched a one-hitter and the Royals (3-2) scored all their runs on four hits in the fifth of a consolation game in the Simi Valley tournament at Rancho Simi Park.

Amanda Wilkins got the only hit for Notre Dame (3-2) in the sixth inning.

Simi Valley 1, Dos Pueblos 0--Mandy Kilionski pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts for the Pioneers (3-0-1) in a Simi Valley tournament semifinal at Rancho Simi Park.

Heidi Kanabe’s triple scored Jenni Shields in the sixth inning.

Buena 3, La Reina 2--Alicia Morales’ run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh gave the Bulldogs (3-3) a Simi Valley tournament consolation victory at Rancho Simi Park.

Morales pitched a no-hitter in a 10-0 victory over South Torrance earlier in the day.

Notre Dame 2, Oxnard 0--Cori Blanton hit a two-run double in the seventh for the Knights (2-2) in a consolation game in the Simi Valley tournament at Rancho Simi Park.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Pierce 7, Bakersfield 6--Ryan Cope’s run-scoring single in the ninth, his fourth hit, gave the Brahmas (12-6, 4-1 in conference play) a Western State Conference Southern Division victory at Pierce.

Glendale 4, Canyons 3--Fernando Valenzuela Jr., who had three hits, doubled home the winning run in the ninth inning of a Western State Conference Southern Division game at Glendale.

Ivan Lopez (3-0) pitched the final two innings for Glendale (13-2, 4-1).

Nolan Lemar hit a home run for Canyons (7-9-1, 2-3).

Oxnard 22, Moorpark 0--Ernie Borjas (2-0) pitched a four-hitter with one strikeout and two walks for the Condors (10-7, 4-1) in a WSC Northern Division victory at Oxnard.

Concordia 16-2, The Master’s 7-4--The Mustangs (10-8) won the second game when Brad Hackworth scattered six hits over seven innings at the Master’s.
