SEASON AT A GLANCE: Avlas, a catcher, was the City co-player of the year last season when the Golden Cougars won their sixth City Championship. He has started this season by going nine for 15 with eight runs batted in.

WEEK AT A GLANCE: Avlas led Kennedy (5-0) to the San Fernando Valley tournament championship. He had a three-run double in the second inning Saturday to give the Golden Cougars a 5-0 lead against Lancaster at USC’s Dedeaux Field. Kennedy won, 6-3. Avlas had three hits and threw out two runners trying to steal in a 3-2 victory over Westlake.
