* Grant High was seeded No. 1 and two-time defending City champion Taft was seeded No. 2 in the City Championship boys’ playoffs.

Grant (13-0) won the Sunset Six League title and defeated Taft (12-1), the West Valley League champion, in a five-game nonleague match. Grant will host Sylmar (10-3) and Taft will host North Hollywood (9-3) in first-round matches Tuesday night.

Chatsworth (11-2), the West Valley runner-up, was seeded No. 3 and will host Fremont (10-2). Valley Mission League champion Monroe was seeded No. 4 and will host Granada Hills (7-6).

BASEBALL

* Tyler Adamczyk, a pitcher-first baseman for Westlake High, will skip his turn in the rotation today against Simi Valley because of two hairline fractures in his right foot.

Adamczyk, who has signed with California, was injured sliding into second base Wednesday against Agoura. He said he might play in the field or as designated hitter today.

FOOTBALL

* Former Taft defensive back Keith Hayward-Johnson has signed a free-agent contract with the San Diego Chargers.
