Mark Felix of Valencia avoided a false start and bolted away from the rest of the field to easily win the 100 in 10.63 seconds in the Foothill League track finals at College of the Canyons in Valencia.

“It was a decent time,” said Felix, who false started in last year’s finals. “I’ll be running faster as the season progresses. I just wanted to make sure it didn’t happen to me again.”

Felix saved his best for the 200, winning in a meet-record 21.1 seconds. He also anchored Valencia’s 400 relay team that set a meet record of 42.85 seconds, and anchored the 1,600 relay team that finished first in 3:20.92, falling just short of another record.

“I’m happy with how it’s gone,” Felix said.

The Valencia boys, who won the dual-meet title, also received an impressive performance by Chris Chutuk. The junior won the 110 high hurdles in 15.41 seconds and the 300 intermediate hurdles in 40.12 seconds.

Tony Ahr of Burroughs won the 800 in 1:57.6 and the 1,600 in 4:25.1.

Nick Zoetewey passed up the 1,600 meters in favor of the 3,200 and won in 9:19.4 to lead a sweep for Canyon.

Freshman Alysia Johnson won the 200 in 25.26 seconds and the 800 in 2:20.1 as Canyon won the girls’ dual-meet championship.

She anchored the 1,600 relay team that set a meet record of 4:00.11.

Alisha Thompson of Canyon won the 100 hurdles in 15.5 seconds and the 300 low hurdles in 45.64 seconds. She also ran the first leg in the 1,600 relay.
