Chaminade Shows Mercy, 11-0
The way Bobby Paschal was pitching Thursday night, even a healthy Nomar Garciaparra might have had trouble hitting against him.
Garciaparra, the injured Boston Red Sox shortstop, watched from the sideline as Paschal struck out 11, walked none and allowed two hits in Chaminade High’s 11-0 victory over Bosco Tech in a first-round Southern Section Division IV playoff opener halted after five innings because of the 10-run rule at Birmingham High.
Garciaparra’s brother, Michael, a shortstop for Bosco Tech, grounded out and struck out against Paschal (11-0), who lowered his earned-run average to 0.53.
Erik Johnson hit a three-run home run, Paschal had two hits and two runs batted in, and Jim Milkovich added two hits to lead a 10-hit attack.
It was the 22nd win in 23 games for Chaminade (23-3).
“Everybody is firing right now,” Johnson said.
No one is hotter than Paschal, a junior left-hander who retired the first 10 batters, seven on strikeouts.
“His pitch selection is unbelievable,” Johnson said. “He’s definitely a treat to watch.”
