Pat Nihipali had 19 kills and Jason Spratt added 16 as Manhattan Beach Mira Costa’s boys’ volleyball team concluded an undefeated season with a 15-6, 11-15, 15-10, 15-11 victory over Simi Valley Royal in the Southern Section Division II final at Cypress College.
Mira Costa (29-0) won its fourth title.
“This one is a sweet one,” said Coach Mike Cook, in his 22nd season at Mira Costa. “In ’90 and ‘96, they were a piece of cake. But we ran into this Royal team and they were astounding. This was hard-earned.”
David Russell had 27 kills for Royal (26-5).
In other finals:
Long Beach Jordan d. Valencia Valencia, 15-11, 15-10, 13-15, 16-14--Jermaine Seiuli had 28 kills and Sam Pech had 17 in the Division I final as Jordan (17-1) won its first championship.
Santa Margarita d. Santa Ana Mater Dei, 15-8, 15-8, 8-15, 15-16--Blake Robinson had 23 of his match-high 35 kills in the first two games, helping Santa Margarita (19-3) to a fast start en route to the Division III championship.
Santa Ynez d. Corona del Mar, 15-9, 15-5, 15-8--Junior middle blocker Matt McKinney had a match-high 24 kills to lead Santa Ynez (20-4) to the Division IV title.
San Juan Capistrano St. Margaret’s d. Montebello Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 15-13, 15-10, 15-6--Abe Marouf had 25 kills and six blocks to lead St. Margaret’s to the Division V championship.
