Ventura 28, Thousand Oaks 21--Ben Olson’s 47-yard touchdown pass to Corey Mazza as time expired was negated on a holding penalty and Ventura held on to upset the second-seeded Lancers in a Division IV quarterfinal at Ventura High.

Ventura’s Joaquin Real scored on a 10-yard run with 28 seconds left to play to lift the Cougars (9-3). Real rushed 40 times for 213 yards and three touchdowns.

His touchdown capped a seven-play, 55-yard drive that began with 2:32 left to play.

Olson completed 18 of 30 passes for 249 yards and three touchdowns. His 23-yard pass to Mazza with 9:05 left to play in the fourth quarter tied the score, 21-21.

Olson, who was sacked five times in the first half and held to 74 yards passing, threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns to rally Thousand Oaks (9-3) in the second half.

Mazza had six receptions for 90 yards and caught a seven-yard scoring pass from Olson with 41 seconds left in the third quarter.

Real scored on touchdown runs of 12 and 38 and a 35-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter to give the Cougars a 21-7 halftime lead.
