Switch Helps Los Alamitos Earn Victory

Melissa Selmanson and Tara Siddiqui, who normally play at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, instead played doubles as Los Alamitos High avenged an earlier loss to Huntington Beach Edison, 13-5, to move into a first-place tie with the Chargers in Sunset League girls’ tennis.

Selmanson teamed with sophomore Chris Satele to produce 6-0, 6-1, 6-0 victories for Los Alamitos (11-2 overall, 7-1 in league), while Siddiqui and sophomore Megan King won, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2.

In girl’s volleyball:

Irvine d. Newport Harbor, 15-12, 15-6, 7-15, 11-15, 15-8--Olivia Waldowski had 33 kills, 13 digs and six blocks, and Anneke deVries had 15 kills and 24 digs as host Irvine (8-4, 5-1) defeated No. 10 Newport Harbor (15-9, 5-1) in a Sea View League match. .

Simi Valley 9, Newbury Park 9--Maria Espinoza and Amber Swenson swept their doubles matches to lead Simi Valley (15-1, 8-1) past Newbury Park (13-5, 6-4) on points, 80-77, in the Marmonte League.

Troy 13, Sunny Hills 5--Veronica Fermin and Calina Ciobanu swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-2 as No. 6 Troy (15-3, 7-0) beat Sunny Hills (13-4, 5-2) in the Freeway League.

In girls’ golf:

Camarillo 222, Oxnard Rio Mesa 255--Katrina Sutton shot a two-over 37 as No. 6 Camarillo (13-0, 9-0) clinched its third Pacific View League title in a row at Spanish Hills Country Club.

Villa Park 211, Santa Ana Foothill 245--Priscilla Park’s even-par 36 at Green River Country Club led Villa Park (15-2, 9-0) to a third consecutive Century League title. Foothill is 13-4, 7-2.
