Significance of Surge in Quakes Is Unclear

Scientists say they aren’t sure whether a surge of recent quakes, including one that hit Thursday morning north of San Francisco, is good news or bad for the Bay Area.
Scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park say there is a 70% chance that a quake with a magnitude of 6.7 or greater will hit somewhere in the region in the next 30 years.
In the meantime, earthquake experts are trying to understand what role the little quakes play.
