Plan for Airport Expansion Cut Back
From Times Wire Reports
Economic turmoil and new air-security measures after Sept. 11 have forced officials to scale back plans for a $1.4-billion expansion of Oakland International Airport.
Subject to Port Commission approval, the smaller project’s $425-million cost is split between a new seven-story, 6,000-slot parking garage and an expansion of Terminal 2.
The work, though less ambitious than original plans, is intended to restore convenience and comfort to the airport by early 2006, officials said.
