It Was All Jake With This Reader

If any of those boys who played for McDermott Northwest and Waverly play in the Super Bowl, they will never accomplish anything as football players as important as they did when they allowed Jake Porter to score a touchdown on Oct. 18 [“Run of the Chill,” Dec. 25].

As sports enthusiasts, we get caught up in rivalries and forget that games are really nothing more than a celebration of life and that the result is far less important than the participation. When I saw Jake’s touchdown on the sports highlights that night, the humanity of the players and coaches of both teams, and the visible joy in Jake’s stride, brought tears to my eyes. Your story brought those back.
